Drew Sullivan, DVM
Medical Director

Drew Sullivan, DVM

Dr. Drew Sullivan graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. He began his career as an associate veterinarian at Northgate Pet Clinic in Decatur, Illinois. In 2012, he completed a special certification in small animal ultrasound.  He joined the faculty at University of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013 and was named medical director of Medical District Veterinary Clinic in 2014.

Dr. Sullivan’s Illini spirit runs deep. In addition to completing a double major in animal sciences and chemistry as an undergraduate at Illinois, he was also a cheerleader. During his veterinary studies, he found time to be the assistant varsity cheerleading coach. He says one of his most exciting moments was being right on the court when Illinois beat Arizona on the way to the 2005 Final Four & National Championship Game.

Dr. Sullivan enjoys spending time with his wife, who is also an Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine grad, their two children, and their dog Oskee.

When he’s not working, Dr. Sullivan enjoys working out and doing Crossfit. He loves Illinois athletics and is an avid Chicago sports fan.

Brett Grossman, DVM

Brett Grossman, DVM

Dr. Brett Grossman joined the Medical District Veterinary Clinic at Illinois after several years providing emergency veterinary care in the Chicago area. He earned his veterinary degree from Western University of Health Sciences in California and completed a small animal internship in medicine and surgery at Carolina Veterinary Specialists in North Carolina. His pre-veterinary career involved earning dual degrees in Analytical Philosophy and Neuroscience at the University of Illinois at Chicago and playing music and running record stores in the Chicago area.

He and his wife have one human and three animal dependents. In order from youngest to oldest, these include: August, who enjoys pointing and screaming at birds; Emerson, who was adopted from a Flagstaff, Ariz., convent and who keeps all the imaginary pirates at bay by barking 24 hours a day; Crocodile, found on the streets of Greensboro, N.C., who loves to urinate in the toilet; and hyperthyroid Bell, adopted off the streets of Chicago’s South Side.

Dr. Grossman enjoys taking roads trips, playing and listening to music, reading, and experiencing all aspects of outdoor Chicago.

Amber Slaughter, DVM

Amber Slaughter, DVM

Dr. Amber Slaughter graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. Upon graduation, she completed a one-year rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at VCA Aurora Animal Hospital. At the completion of her internship, she relocated to Seattle where she practiced small animal emergency medicine. A true Midwesterner at heart, she decided to move back to the Chicago to join the team at Medical District Veterinary Clinic.

In her free time, Dr. Slaughter enjoys sports (basketball is her absolute favorite), outdoor activities, baking, movies, theater, and listening to music. She shares her home with her Maltese Yorkshire terrier named Sadie.

Alyssa Kritzman, DVM

Alyssa Kritzman, DVM

Dr. Alyssa Kritzman graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012, she went on to complete a small animal internship at BluePearl Illinois and then worked in emergency medicine and general practice in the Chicagoland Area.

It’s fitting Dr. Kritzman is working for the University of Illinois, because most of her family are Illini. There is even an engraved boulder in her parents’ backyard to prove it.

In her free time, Dr. Kritzman enjoys exploring the city of Chicago, baking, exercising, and spending her free time with her husband, daughter, and dog Emmie.
